Pakistan has been endowed with the natural resource base which can enable it to act as a food basket for the Middle East Asia and Central Asia. It is however ironic that most of the agriculture produce is sold "raw" and is subject to a lot of waste as there are no Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) that can produce value added products with improved shelf lives and better marketability. With ever growing concerns for food security at a global level, a strong case can be made for establishing an investment vehicle that can cater to the needs of this highly underserved sector of the economy. At a national level, agriculture employs 45% of the labor force in Pakistan while the contribution to GDP is only 21%1. Most of the families associated with agriculture are subsistence farmers. Smoother supply of agricultural inputs to these farmers and reduction in market inefficiencies for sale of their crops can go a long way in helping such low income farmers who constitute 60%1 of the rural population.
